Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS)

Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS) is a new and advanced non-invasive brain stimulation technique that involves the impact of shock waves on certain parts of the brain, which causes a therapeutic effect

In 2018, transcranial pulse stimulation (TPS) with the NEUROLITH® system was approved for the treatment of the central nervous system in patients with Alzheimer's disease as the only hardware technique method available today.

How is the procedure performed?

The treatment consists of a course of painless procedures. The device generates a series of shock wave pulses, which are directed by a sensor to the corresponding part of the brain. These pulses promote:

  • Vascular dilation
  • Stimulation of stem cell migration to the areas treated with shock waves and launch of neuronal proliferation factor
  • Stimulation of endothelial factor, which causes the formation/growth of new blood vessels (microangiogenesis)

Main features of TPS-therapy:

  • The course of treatment consists of 6-9 TPS procedures
  • The procedure lasts about 30 minutes
  • The procedures are non-invasive, safe and painless
  • No need to shave your head
  • Causes significant improvement in cognition and praxis
  • Antidepressant effect

What diseases can be treated with TPS?

  • Dementia

    • Alzheimer's disease
    • Frontotemporal dementia
    • Dementia in Parkinson's disease
    • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Other neurological disorders:

    • Parkinson's disease
    • Spinal cerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1)
    • Aphasia
    • Corticobasal degeneration
    • Post-stroke rehabilitation
Alzheimer's disease and TPS treatment
Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS®) is a therapy technique that has been authorized in Europe since 2018 for treating Alzheimer's disease of mild to moderate severity. The objective of Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS) is to enhance cognitive functions in individuals suffering from Alzheimer's dementia by activating various regions of the brain and sustaining this condition for as long as feasible. Patients and their relatives have observed enhancements in linguistic skills, memory, spatial awareness, and a decrease in symptoms of concurrent depression.
